Woodbridge High track and field standout Maddie Lyon made a verbal commitment this week to attend and compete for Oregon State University.

Lyon took three of her five official visits, meeting with coaches at University of Utah, Louisville and Oregon State.

“All three schools made her an offer, but it was Oregon State that really was the best fit for her,” said her father, Jay Lyon. “There was no need to take her last two visits.

“Head coach Louie Quintana, jumps coach Pete Herber and assistat jumps coach Courtney Jost, all did an amazing jump with the process.  As you would expect from the PAC 12, they did a fantastic job explaining their vision and how Maddie would fit into the program. They made her feel a part of the Oregon State family.

“She had a chance to spend the weekend with the track athletes and that was very important. All the girls are just wonderful kids. She is excited to compete at the next level, with them all.”

Maddie Lyon is expected to compete in the high jump, long jump and triple jump.

“Triple jump is her speciality and she’s expected to make an immediate impact, in this event. Hopefully her skills will translate to points for the team,” Jay Lyon said. “The Beavers have recruited some strong athletes and it will be so exciting to see them compete.”

Maddie Lyon is a two-time Pacific Coast League MVP for girls track and field. She also has a goal of returning to Clovis for the state track and field championships and winning the triple jump.

“She will focus on strength and conditioning, getting stronger, staying healthy and enjoying her senior year,” Jay Lyon said. “We’re all so very proud of her… And on this day, we are thankful for her Woodbridge High School coach Aaron Craver, and her long time jumps coach coach and mentor, Coach Keinan Briggs of Leap Squad.”
