Five Irvine High football players earned honors Monday night at the National Football Foundation Orange County Scholar Athletes Banquet.
The athletes, who were among 98 honored throughout the county, had to have at least a 3.5 GPA and be first team all-league.
“We are very proud of the five Vaqueros (Marc Filia, Bryce Tanikawa, Ethan Shank, Lorenzo Bazzani and Jacob Haley) who received Scholar Athlete recognition from the National Football Foundation,” said former Irvine football coach Erik Terry.
“This is the most number of players we have ever had receive this recognition in a single year. I only wish we would have had more spots on the the first team for the Pacific Coast League because two of our second team selections were also over a 3.5 grade point average. Our senior class was very strong in the classroom and on the field.”
