It was a tough year for Irvine High’s football team which went through a 1-9 season.

But two junior captains stood out, quarterback Beck Moss and wide receiver Kade Zimmerman.

Both players earned first team All-Pacific Coast League honors and both were named to the OC Sports Zone All-Irvine offensive team.

“It’s not easy for players to go through a difficult season and these boys handled it with hard work and class,” said Irvine Coach Tom Ricci. Some players struggle through a difficult season and let it affect their play but that’s not the case with these boys.

“They both would come back working harder each week no matter where we were in the season. I appreciate all the time they put into improving themselves.  I’m looking forward to seeing what they will accomplish next season. Eventually a college is going to benefit from everything they put into their self improvement.”

Moss threw for 2,193 yards and 19 touchdowns and broke the school record for completions in a season, according to Ricci. Zimmerman led Division 11 in receving yards with 1,049 yards on 79 receptions and broke three school records including yards in a season and receptions in a game, according to Ricci.  On defense, he had one interception for a TD and 36 tackles.

Zimmerman is now playing for the Irvine basketball squad.
