Ocean View High School’s football team has begun preparations for the season opener against Santa Ana Valley.
“Summer is all about preparation for the season, making sure we’re in great shape both physically and mentally, so that when the pads come on it’s all about technique, game plans and execution,” said Seahawks Coach Jimmy Welker
“We’re returning a lot of guys with experience and are going to need our leaders to step up and make plays.”
Welker is looking for big seasons from quarterback/defensive back Frankie Armenta, offensive and defensive lineman Alexis Ayona, offensive lineman/linebacker Keiki Leuta and offensive and defensive linemen Jayden Trujillo, Iofi Silao and Josh Bobadilla.
“We’ve got some newcomers who are also going to make their presence felt: quarterback/linebacker Dylan Mayorga, running back/defensive back Jorian Smith Sherry, wide receiver/linebacker Jesse Gomez, wide receiver/defensive back Vai Levu and offensive and defensive lineman Axel Tangkau.”
Ocean View was 3-7 overall and 1-2 in the Pac-4 League last season.
“I thought our competitive fight was there last year, this year we need to have better execution and be able to close games in the fourth quarter,” Welker said.
