One day after being no-hit by Long Beach Wilson pitcher Jacob Ribitzki, Woodbridge’s baseball team responded with a no-hitter of its own Tuesday in the Loara Tournament.

Sophomore Jack Bunnell, in just his second varsity outing, threw a no-hitter, striking out 12 to help the Warriors defeat Loara 8-0 at Loara.

“Today was a good day for the Warriors,” said Woodbridge Coach Ryan Brucker.

“Jack Bunnell was dominant on the mound and was commanding three pitches for strikes,” Brucker said. “He is very composed for a sophomore and he did a good job getting strike one. He is only going to continue to get better. Pretty awesome for him to throw a no-hitter in his second varsity outing.”

Brucker, after Monday’s game against Wilson, said:

“Beautiful thing about baseball is there always another game and an opportunity to get better.”

The Warriors responded on Tuesday with 13 hits.

Senior Will Rudy was 3-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs scored. Junior Grant Martine also was 3-for-4 and had four RBI.

Senior Lucas Budgell was 2-for-4 with 3 runs scored and two RBI and junior Jakob Trestik was 2-for-2 with a double, two runs scored and a stolen base.

“I was very proud of the way we responded after playing poorly yesterday and being no-hit ourselves,” Brucker said. “It would have been easy for our guys to come out in the tank today, but they came out hungry and responded. Offensively we competed better and executed which gave us some opportunities to score early. Lucas, Will and Grant had good approaches today and it showed with our run production.”

Brucker will now prepare his squad for the remainder of the Loara Tournament.

“We have two more games in the Loara Tournament to find a lineup that will keep us competitive in what is going to be a tough Pacific Coast League this year,” he said.
