Freshman forward Marquise Mitchell scored the first goal of the season for the Santa Ana College men’s soccer team which ended up with a 1-1 draw against East Los Angeles College in the season opener on Friday afternoon.
It was the first official match for both teams in almost two years because last season was cancelled due to the coronavius pandemic.
Mitchell found the back of the net in the 23rd minute of action on a pass from sophomore Marcelo Aguirre to give the Dons an early lead.
But the Huskies responded in the second half, scoring at the 52nd minute which led to a 1-1 draw at the end of the match.
Santa Ana College will hit the road again on Friday for a tournament at Mt. San Antonio College where they will match up against Lake Tahoe at 6 p.m. They’ll follow that with another match at Mt. SAC against West Valley on Sunday at 10 a.m.
