Adam Achour had a pick six and Logan Herzog a 40-yard TD run for Tesoro (3-2).
“Going into the game, our best player who didn’t play, we had to rally around Vaughn and our offensive line and they did an outstanding job,” said Tesoro Coach Mike Zangl in an interview posted by the Tesoro Football Booster Club. “The defense got after it all game, the special teams did exactly what they are supposed to do, the offensive line play was outstanding, 305 yards rushing and 565 yards of offense without our main source of yardage and again, team effort.
“I told our kids after the game this is how it works, someone goes down, you rally around him, we do what we do and we followed our system, our kids were prepared and I’m just so proud of them and our coaches, it’s an outstanding win for our program on homecoming night and I’m looking forward to see what our kids can do in the next couple of weeks.”
Matt Rodriguez had the only score for Cypress (2-3).
Both teams have a byes this week before the start of their league play Friday, Oct. 4.
