Irvine High’s football team notched its first victory of the season Friday night, defeating Universty 39-7 in a Pacific Coast League game at Irvine Stadium on Irvine’s homecoming.

Irvine quarterback Beck Moss completed 23 for 33 of 33 passes for 159 yards and three touchdowns. He had one interception and one rushing TD.
Jacob Sears had seven receptions for 66 yards and two touchdowns for Irvine (1-7, 1-2). The Vaqueros moved out to a 22-0 halftime lead.
Kade Zimmerman had four receptions for 20 yards and one TD. He also had an interception for a TD on defense.
Max Lanzaorreana had two interceptions on defense.
“A lot of different guys contributed to the win,” said Coach Tom Ricci. “It was great to see our defense finally play like I know they can. Three interceptions with one for a TD was nice to see. It’s always nice to get a homecoming win in front of the alumni.Â
“We are banged up so we will be on the mend this week. We know we have a tall order to fill next week against Portola. We are hoping to heal up before Friday. “
Irvine plays at Portola Friday night while University (0-8, 0-3) meets Woodbridge at Uni. Uni will be the home team.
