Orange County high school baseball highlights, final scores for Wednesday, April 22

PACIFIC COAST LEAGUE

WOODBRIDGE 5, PORTOLA 0: League-leading Woodbridge (13-10, 9-2) was led by starting pitcher Vincent DeMarco, who earned the win Wednesday at Portola. DeMarco improved his record to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in league play. He pitched the first six innings, allowing one hit while striking out 12 and walking three. Caden Camacho pitched a scoreless seventh inning.

Henry Uhrik led the offense, going 3 for 4 with a run scored and three RBI. Vaughn Tase had two hits for Woodbridge. DJ Nguyen had the only hit for Portola (6-10, 5-6). Caleb Camacho had a hit and scored two runs for the Warriors.

Woodbridge outhit Portola 8-1 and broke the game open with four runs in the fourth inning. Portola was hurt by four errors. Portola remains in the chase for one of four automatic playoff berths in the league.

Coach Ryan Brucker’s Warriors have a one game lead over Irvine and Laguna Beach, who are tied for second place. Woodbridge hosts Portola Friday at 6 p.m. at Ryan Lemmon Stadium, then finishes league play with two games vs. Sage Hill.

IRVINE 8, ST. MARGARET’S 3: The Vaqueros (11-12, 8-3) remained tied for second place in the league with a win on Wednesday.

“We played a solid game highlighted by great pitching,” said Irvine Coach Gabriel Cota.

Matthew Sandoval pitched three innings, allowing one earned run with four strikeouts and Jason Alderson pitched four innings, allowing one earned run and striking out nine.

Owen Song was 2 for 2 with three runs scored, an RBI and a walk; Caleb Rogers was 2 for 2 with three RBI and a run scored; Nico Macalino was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Roshan Patel was 2 for 3.

Laguna Beach 4, University 3

GOLDEN WEST LEAGUE

TUSTIN 9, SEGERSTROM 8: Tustin (14-9, 6-2) bounced back from Tuesday’s 3-0 loss to Kennedy with a win Wednesday at Segestrom.

Isaac Maldonado got the win in relief for Tustin pitching 1 1/3 innings. Nyte Teeter started on the mound for the Tillers, allowing three hits and one run over four innings. Maldonado and Grante Menges each had two hits while Adam Whyte drove in three runs for Tustin.

Xavier Yanez and Jonathan Macias each drove in two runs for Segerstrom (7-16, 3-6).

CRESTVIEW LEAGUE

CYPRESS 1, FOOTHILL 0 (10 innings); League-leading Cypress (18-5, 8-1) got a walk-off win Wednesday at Cypress. Drew Slevcove pitched the first eight innings allowing three hits and striking out 13 for Cypress. Landon Smith pitched two innings striking out two to earn the win.

Jake De Laquil got the walk-off RBI for Cypress and led the hitting attack, going 2 for 5 with an RBI. Ivan Ortiz was 2 for 4.

Caden Lauridsen was outstanding on the mound for Foothill, allowing five hits and no runs in nine innings and striking out four.

FREEWAY LEAGUE

PACIFICA 13, BREA OLINDA 1: Pacifica (13-9, 4-3) was led by Cade Tessier, who pitched four scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out two to earn the win. Brody Jakel was 2 for 3 with a double, RBI and a run scored, Jensen Kinkade was 2 for 2 with a triple, two runs scored and two RBI, Karson Mau’u was 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBI, Robert Anoba was 2 for 4 with an RBI and Raiden Futami was 2 for 3 with three RBI and a sacrifice to lead the 15-hit attack for Pacifica.

SUNSET LEAGUE

CORONA DEL MAR 3, MARINA 0: The Sea Kings (12-11, 5-9) won the second straight game of the series. Will Chavez threw a three-hit shutout and was also 1 for 3 with a big RBI. Max Brengel was 2 for 3 with a double and a run scored.

SEA VIEW LEAGUE

MISSION VIEJO 3, EL TORO 2: Cheers erupted in the Mission Viejo dugout as pitcher Jackson Stonebarger closed out a 3-2 victory at home against El Toro Wednesday in a Sea View League baseball game. League-leading Mission Viejo has won the first two games of this three-game Sea View League series.

Mission Viejo (14-8, 5-3) got a dominant outing from junior starting pitcher Caleb Tucker, who threw six complete innings while giving up only two runs on five hits and striking out six Charger batters.

Junior Robert Nestor had his second good game of the series going 1 for 3 with a walk and a single and two runs scored. Carson Browning was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Aiden Chapuis also had a solid game at the plate for the Diablos, driving in two runs going 1 for 1 with a sacrifice fly and an RBI single.

Left fielder Isaac Lopez led El Toro (11-11-1, 5-6) going 2 for 3 with a single, double and a run scored. Sophomore Gavin Broesamle went 1 for 3 with an RBI single while also making some great defensive plays at first base.

Game three of the series will be played at El Toro on Friday.
