A number of Orange County squads had solid efforts in week one of high school football:
…. Segerstrom, Crean Lutheran, Laguna Hills, Irvine, Beckman, Brea Olinda and Ocean View were among teams winning their second game in a row to start the season. The squads also won in week zero.
… Deshawn Cobbs of Fullerton rushed for three touchdowns to lead the Indians past Whittier 28-0.
…..Portola and University batted in a wild double overtime game with Portola winning the hard-fought game 35-34. The game was much closer than last year’s matchup which the Bulldogs won 42-7 at Portola.
…. Justin Dominguez of Crean Lutheran had another big game rushing for 180 yards and three touchdowns. The Saints host Trabuco Hills Friday night.
…..Laguna Hills running back Ryan McKevitt had a dominating performance in a victory over Santa Ana. He carried the ball 23 times for 271 yards and scored three TDs. It marked the first home game for new Santa Ana Coach Rory Schoonmaker.
….Irvine’s defense was outstanding in a 42-14 victory over Canyon. Carson Walker, Cyrus Doherty and Katrell May led the way for Coach Tom Ricci’s team.
…..Marina High School’s football team earned its first victory for new coach Charlie TeGantvoort in the Vikings 13-7 overtime win over Fountain Valley. Anthony Fabian scored two touchdowns for Marina.
….Segerstrom’s football team won its second in a row with a strong overall game, including outstanding play from the defense and special teams, according to Coach Joseph Tagaloa. The Jaguars have their first home game Friday vs. California.
….. Beckman’s defense recorded its second straight shutout and In one half, quarterback Austin Shepard completed 9 of 12 for 178 yards and four touchdowns in a 62-0 victory over Bolsa Grande.
