Portola and University football teams battled in a non-league contest Friday night and in a game that had seven lead changes, visiting Portola captured a 35-34 victory in double overtime.

Portola survived via a blocked PAT kick in double overtime to hold on for the win.

Each team had more than 330 yards from the line of scrimmage and 20 first downs. University quarterback Koa Saito threw for 264 yards and four touchdowns, two each to Brooks Beckmann and Blaine Anderson.

Portola’s Rocky Palacio passed for 207 yards and accounted for four TDs (two on the ground and two in the air).  Down 21-28 in the first overtime overtime and facing a fourth and 19, Palacio threw for 20 yards to keep the Bulldogs in the game and set up a score.

Coach Peter Abe’s Portola team (1-1) plays at Cerritos Thursday night while Vince Mesa’s University squad (0-2) hosts Los Amigos.
