Irvine High head football coach Tom Ricci has named Dubhe Ramirez as the team’s new defensive coordinator.
Ramirez graduated from Katella in 2010 and played for Ricci at Katella.
“He took over as defensive coordinator at Katella when I left and was DC of their 2017 team that won CIF and won the first round of state,” Ricci said Friday.
“I’d like to thank the Katella football program for their constant support through the years,” Ramirez said in a statement. “I am excited to start a new chapter at a school with rich tradition in Irvine High School. I look forward to working with Coach Ricci and the staff in re-building the winning culture at Irvine.”
Ricci added:
“I’m glad to have Dubhe on board. His passion and energy is second to none and I’m looking forward to having him bring those qualities to our defense. Last year his team had 33 turnovers in the season. I’m hoping he will bring some of those turnovers with him as well. We’ve coached together in the past and run the same defense, so it should be an easy transition and I am excited to see where he will take the defense from there.”
