Week zero is in the books for Orange County high school football. Now, it’s on to week one with even more games Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
OC Sports Zone will publish the entire schedule later in the week, but here’s a quick look at some of the key games:
THURSDAY, AUG. 29
Capistrano Valley Christian at University: It will be the opener for University. Capo Valley Christian opened with a win Friday over Arroyo. CVC will be in the Ironwood League.
Fountain Valley at Esperanza
Corona del Mar vs. Cypress at Western
Magnolia at Valencia
Colony vs. El Modena, Fred Kelly Stadium
FRIDAY, AUG. 30
Santa Ana Valley at Segerstrom: Segerstrom, coached by Joseph Tagaloa, opened with a 37-0 win over Palm Springs while Santa Ana Valley fell to Beckman 35-0.
San Marcos at Tesoro: Titans quarterback Cash O’Byrne threw five touchdown passes in the opener for new coach Mike Zangl. Tesoro defeated Murrieta Mesa 34-13.
Crean Lutheran at St. Pius X: Coach Rick Curtis Saints opened the season with a 35-12 victory over Mullen Catholic Friday in Denver, Colo.
Century at Verbum Dei Salesian: Coach Lance Neal’s Centurions are looking for their second straight win to start the season.
Villa Park at Orange, Fred Kelly Stadium: Both teams are looking to get into the win column after opening week losses.
California at Brea Olinda: The Wildcats are looking for their second straight win. In Friday’s opener, quarterback Cullen Doyle passed for 223 yards and one touchdown. Running back Nate Aceves rushed for 147 yards and scored three TDs in a 45-0 victory over Sonora.
Morningside at Saddleback: The Roadrunners, after narrowly losing their opener, play their first home game.
Canyon vs. Woodbridge at University: Coach Aaron Craver’s Warriors won a thriller Friday over Calvary Chapel. Quarterback Cayden Jones connected with Aydrien Garnica on a two-point conversion with 40 seconds left to lift the Warriors to the win in the opener. Jayden Clayborn rushed for 223 yards on 21 carries for the Warriors.
Sonora vs. Northwood at Portola: Northwood opened with a 20-8 victory over Irvine led by Joseph Harper, who rushed for 209 yards, threw a TD pass and scored a TD. Sonora dropped its opener to Brea Olinda 45-0. Jack Brucker also had a big game for Northwood.
Portola at Irvine, Irvine Stadium: Two former Pacific Coast League rivals are both looking for their first wins.
Roosevelt at San Juan Hills
La Quinta vs. Godinez at Santa Ana Valley: Coach Aron Kaye’s Grizzlies have their first home game after an opening win over Loara Thursday night.
Edison at Yorba Linda
Servite at Murrieta Valley
Garden Grove vs. Pacifica at Bolsa Grande
Santa Ana at Laguna Hills: Both teams are coming off opening week losses.
Silver Valley at Los Amigos: The Lobos were impressive in an opening victory over Santiago Thursday.
Western at La Mirada
Sunny Hills at Buena Park
Foothill at Tustin: Both teams opened with wins last week. Tustin is the designated home team.
Santiago at Westminster
Newport Harbor at La Habra
Claremont at Troy
Narbonne at Los Alamitos: Los Alamitos powered to a 71-0 win over Western in the opener.
Costa Mesa at Estancia
Trabuco Hills at Huntington Beach
Anaheim at Ocean View: It’s the opener for Anaheim. Ocean View looking for its first win.
Marina at LB Wilson
Aliso Niguel at El Toro
SATURDAY, AUG. 31
Valley Christian vs. Calvary Chapel at Segerstrom, 6 p.m.: Calvary Chapel looking to bounced back from last week’s loss to Woodbridge.
