Corona del Mar High School football players and coaches are looking forward to the opener of the spring season on Friday, March 12, when the Sea Kings host Palos Verdes at Costa Mesa High School.
Corona del Mar captured the CIF Division 3 title and 1A state title in 2019 and finished 16-0.
“The CdM Sea Kings are excited to kick off a unique spring football season in 2021 after a patient wait to let California athletes back in action,” said CdM Coach Dan O’Shea.
“The team is led by a senior group that has proved to be exceptionally resilient leaders who epitomize what our program stands for. They will cherish the opportunity to compete together against another challenging schedule including a chase to the title for the Sunset League.
“We open against Palos Verdes this week and over the years this has developed into a great OC vs LA match up.”
A number of players will lead the Sea Kings, O’Shea said.
“The team will be led by three-year starters Tommy Griffin (wide receiver/safety) and Thomas Bouda (defensive end/offensive tackle) along with returning standouts Scotty Giuliano (tight end), Hunter Schimmelpfennig (center), Jason Vecencio (running back), Conner Brooks (defensive end), Brock Preston (defensive end), Kevin Ledezma (linebacker), Charlie Mannon (linebacker), Mikey Wein (linebacker) and Ryder Haupt (cornerback/wide receiver),” he said.
“It will be an honor to represent the CdM community this year and look forward to kicking off again on Friday nights.”
