Estancia and TVT capture opening round CIF baseball playoff victories

Estancia and Tarbut ‘V Torah each captured victories in the opening round of the CIF Division baseball playoffs on Thursday.

Estancia, the Orange Coast League champion, defeated Savanna 1-0, in eight innings in the Division 5 playoffs.

“We’re very excited to move to the next round and battle Oxford Academy next Tuesday,” said Coach Kevin Conlin.

Estancia (16-11) will be home for the second game in a row.

Also on Thursday, TVT recorded a 19-0 victory over Calvary Baptist LaVerne in a Division 7 playoff game at Ryan Lemmon Stadium.

Jared Maister was 4 for 4 with four runs scored and four RBI. Max Ferry was 3 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI, Jacob Gronier was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and three RBI, Max Shuster was 2 for 2 with six RBI including a home run and Aidan Fern was 2 for with three three runs scored and two RBI.

The Lions scored 11 runs in the first inning. The game was called after five innings.

Groner pitched the first three innings and Maister finished up with the final two.

“We were locked in,” said TVT Coach Brent Dohling. “Our approach throughout the game was tremendous. We are excited about the win and are looking forward to competing in the second round Tuesday.”

The Lions (13-5) will face the winner of the Marshall-Ojai Valley game.
