Palm Desert 6, Segerstrom 5: The Jaguars (10-14-2) battled back twice but were not able to come away with a road win Thursday. Senior Adrian Villegas tripled to drive in a run to make it 5-5 in the top of the seventh but Palm Desert loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning and pushed across the game winner, according to Coach Erasmo Ramirez.

“My guys grinded and came from behind a couple times to tie up the score, senior Bryan Cortez had a great game at the plate, junior Derek Higareda also had a good day at the plate and we made some great defensive plays out there,” Ramirez said. “We tip our hat to Palm Desert, they are a well coached team and they were scrappy just like us.

“I’m very proud of the way our boys handled themselves, they never gave up. It was a year full of adversity and trying to push through and they kept believing and had confidence and earned a playoff spot. Even though we lost, it was a huge game for our program. We have a fairly young team and we will come out a lot better because of this game.”

Segerstrom’s season also included a trip to Angel Stadium, where the Jaguars defeated California of Whitttier, in the final regular season game of the year.
