It was quite a final week of the regular season in high school baseball in Orange County.

–Loara captured the outright Garden Grove League title with two victories over Rancho Alamitos to go a perfect 15-0 in league.

–Orange defeated Santa Ana to lock up second place in the Orange Coast League.

-Corona del Mar defeated Laguna Beach to clinch a playoff berth in the Sunset Wave League. (Please click here for a report of that game)

-Just for good measure, there were a couple games at Angel Stadium over the weekend. Long Beach Poly beat Santa Ana Friday and Century topped Orange Saturday.

The final outcomes of those games weren’t as important as the experiences the young players had playing in the home of the Los Angeles Angels.

Now, baseball fans get ready for the biggest day of the year, the announcement of the CIF playoffs which is expected to be made at 10 a.m. Monday.

League champions including Beckman, Cypress, Foothill, Orange Lutheran, Marina, Aliso Niguel, Huntington Beach, Ocean View, Villa Park and Estancia will be represented, along with teams such as Irvine, who is back in the playoffs after a successful year under Coach Gabriel Cota and Century, who has some momentum going into post-season play.

It should be a fun day and we invite you to come back for schedules and analysis on Monday.
