Beckman, Irvine, Loara and Valencia notch league wins on final day of regular season

Beckman’s baseball team wrapped up Pacific Coast League play Thursday defeating University 8-0 at University.

Jakob Guardado pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing no hits and striking out two for Beckman (22-4, 14-1).

“It was his first varsity win in his first varsity start,” said Beckman Coach Kevin Lavalle.

Alec Gomez and Ricky Teel homered for PCL champion Beckman.

University finished 10-16 overall and 5-10 in PCL play.

Also Thursday:

Irvine 6, Northwood 0: The Vaqueros, who had already wrapped up second place in the Pacific Coast League, won their league finale at Northwood.

“Today was another great day to honor Northwood and our seniors,” said Irvine Coach Gabriel Cota. “With the spots locked up (in league) it was awesome to get everyone on our roster in the game. I loved our fight and ability to play the game the right way regardless of the situation.

“I’m excited for our guys to get a chance to see what the playoffs are all about. A huge shout out to Ryan Barlow for throwing his third consecutive complete game shutout.”

Bubba Filia led Irvine, going 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Grant Lockwood was 1 for 3 with an RBI, a walk and a run scored, JC Allen was 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI and Casey Kudell was 1 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored.

Barlow allowed four hits and had five strikeouts for Irvine (17-8, 11-4). Northwood (10-12-1, 8-7) finished in third place in the league.

Loara 10, Rancho Alamitos 4: The Saxons, who clinched the outright Garden Grove League title Tuesday, finished league play 15-0.

Valencia 4, Tustin 1: Jimmy Jackie’s RBI single in the sixth inning lifted the Tigers (8-18, 4-6) to the Empire League victory over the Tillers (10-12-4, 3-7).
