Senior Alonso Contreras threw a no-hitter for Saddleback in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday, leading the Roadrunners to an 11-0 victory over Santa Ana Valley.

He went seven innings, struck out 13 and walked three.

“Gabriel Perez made some pretty good defensive plays at shortstop that secured a couple of outs,” said Saddleback’s first year coach Henry Buenrostro.

Miguel Avina had four RBI and went 2 for 3 at the plate. Saddleback had 12 hits and did have an error.

Saddleback also won the second game 8-4.

“With that, (Saddleback) doubled the school’s win total from last year. These students have had four different coaches in the last four years and have been struggling over the past few seasons,” Buenrostro said.

“So it was really exciting to see them enjoy today and experience how hard work at practice pays off. We still don’t know how this season is going to play out, but these boys really played their butts off today.”
