After record-setting week, Chapman basketball star Cam Haslam earns top honors from conference

Chapman junior Cam Haslam had a historic week and Monday he was named the SCIAC offensive athlete of the week for men’s basketball. He reached a career milestone and scored the most points in Chapman’s Division III history.

First, Haslam scored his 1,000th career point in a victory over Caltech on Wednesday. He scored 20 points in the win, which was just his 53rd career game.

In Saturday’s triple overtime game at Redlands, Haslam put forth a heroic 42-point effort – the most points scored in Chapman’s Division III history and the fourth-most ever. He was 14-of-31 in the game, sinking seven three-pointers and all seven of his free throws.

With 10 seconds to go in regulation, Haslam knocked down a three-pointer that tied the game at 72-72 and sent the game into overtime.

With his team down 90-86 with less than 10 seconds left in the second OT period, Haslam charged down the floor for a quick shot attempt. He pulled up for a three-pointer and sunk it as he absorbed contact from a closing defender. He sunk the free throw for a game-tying, four-point play to send it to a third OT.

The 42-point game is tied for the 26th-most in Division III this year. He also became the first Panther to have multiple 40-point games in his career. He previously scored 40 points against BYU-Hawaii during his freshman season.
