It was an exciting opening weekend of the CIF football playoffs for Orange County squads.

Calvary Chapel won a thrilling 28-20 victory over Santa Ana Valley in Division 13, Segerstrom and Orange notched wins in Division 10, Cypress won in Division 9 and top-seeded Corona del Mar advanced in Division 3 defeating Santiago Corona 49-0. The Sea Kings will host Cajon Saturday at 7 p.m. at Newport Harbor.
Defending Division 11 champion Western was stunned by Simi Valley 37-32 in a Division 10 opener and Sunny Hills, the top-seeded team in Division 8 rallied to defeat Tustin 21-14. Foothill, the top seed in Division 9, defeated Troy 45-7 and moves on to face San Dimas on the road Friday night.
Portola, in its first CIF playoff game won a penalty-filled hard-fought game over Capo Valley Christian 33-19 in Division 14 to move into the quarterfinals against South Torrance Friday night in Torrance.
