Yorba Linda’s boys basketball team went 4-1 in the Grizzly Invitational this week and two <Mustangs, Cory Knutson and Omair Memon, were named to the all-tournament team.
The Mustangs (7-4 overall) fell to Villa Park 91-46 in the championship game Saturday night but before that Yorba Linda defeated Godinez 53-47, Capistrano Valley 40-35, Edison 52-48 and Capistrano Valley Christian 53-41 in the semifinals.
Coach Jason Pietsch said the team is looking forward to getting back to practice and said it was a “great week” overall for his team at the 24-team tournament.
“We’re concerned about ourselves and improving our team,” said Pietsch. “When we get to league, we will concern ourselves more with others but we just want to let and get better and keep guys healthy too.”
The Mustangs were without one of their top scorers, Connor Platt, for the championship game.
“He injured himself yesterday one minute into the game,” Pietsch said. “I knew it would be bad. His ankle swole up pretty good. He will probably be out a few days. Hopefully we get him back for next Friday.”
Yorba Linda plays at Valencia next Friday night in a non-league game.
