University converts a late field goal to capture league victory against Estancia

University’s football team went on a 10 play, four-minute, 77 yard drive culminating in a 20-yard Trevor Pattock field goal with 12 seconds left to spoil Estancia’s Homecoming Friday night.

Muqtader “MQ” Ahmadi recovered a fumble for the Trojans on the following kickoff allowing University to escape with a 22-21 Omicron League victory.

Estancia (1-6, 0-2) forced University to punt on its opening drive and scored three minutes later on a 13 yard pass from Kai Bargas to Juan Silva.

Less than 90 seconds later, University (4-3, 2-0) countered with a 46- yard touchdown pass from Dylan Elmer to Moises Keith-Chavez, knotting the score at seven apiece. University drove the ball 69 yards on a second quarter drive, but failed to get the ball into the end zone three times from the one yard line and neither team was able to score in the second quarter.

Estancia opened the second half with a 17 play, 80 yard drive covering eight plus minutes. running back Nathan Burciaga scored from one yard out giving Estancia a 14-7 lead. The sophomore carried the ball 28 times for 101 yards on the evening.

University responded with Keith-Chavez returning the following kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown. The extra point was blocked by Silva and the Eagles retained a 14-13 lead.

Early in the fourth quarter Burciaga scampered 36 yards untouched around right end to expand the lead to 21-13. The Trojans then went on a 70 yard drive with Henry De Assis scoring on a one yard run. The two point convert pass attempt failed and Estancia led 21-19 with under seven minutes to play.

Estancia could only muster one first down on their next drive and that gave University the opportunity to win the game.

For Estancia, Bargas passed for 151 yards with Silva accounting for five catches for 70 yards.

For University, Elmer had 196 yards of total offense (141 in the air and 56 on the ground). The Trojans had 241 yards on the ground. De Andre Miller had 10 carries for 80 yards, including a 31-yard run on the final drive. De Assis accounted for 11 rushes for 65 yards. Keith-Chavez had seven catches for 100 yards, his fifth 100 plus yards receiving game this season. He also had two kick returns for 119 yards.
