Bruno Banuelos, a star pitcher on the Segerstrom High School baseball team, said Sunday he has committed to play college baseball at Cal State Northridge.
“I am excited to announce that I have made my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the Division 1 level at Cal State Northridge,” Banuelos said on Twitter.
Segerstrom Coach Erasmo Ramirez confirmed the commitment with OC Sports Zone Sunday.
“Bruno Banuelos is a solid young man who has earned this great opportunity,” Ramirez said. “Not only is he a talented pitcher, he’s a great student who understands how important an education is. The combination of him having a tremendous work ethic, a competitive sense of urgency and mental toughness will continue to lead him towards success.
“He’s a great role model, not only for our younger Segerstrom players, but every aspiring athlete in our school district. We look forward to him competing at the Division 1 level.”
Banuelos had a 5-1 record and 1.05 ERA going into last week’s action.
Segerstrom is currently 12-11-1 overall and tied with Ocean View for first place in the Golden West League with a 6-0 record. The teams play twice on the last week of the regular season.
The Jaguars last game came on Thursday when they tied Anaheim 1-1 in a game called after eight innings at Angel Stadium.
