Six different players scored for Segerstrom (7-0 overall).

“Last night was a true team win,” said Coach Joseph Tagaloa.  “After giving up a touchdown in Artesia’s opening drive, we settled in and played solid on both sides of the ball.  Iverson Fuiava sparked the swing in momentum taking the first play on offense for a touchdown.

“Unfortunately, there was a penalty called for blocking down field, which really forced our team to re-evaluate our focus and perform. Jacob Rodriguez rushed for the opening score two plays later to be the first of six Jaguars to score. Andrew Contreras played a great game at quarterback find multiple receivers down field for touchdown passes. Andrew Schouw and Anthony Gomez both hauled in big touchdown throws while Jacob Rodriguez and Nathan Tagaloa got the job done on the ground.”

The defense was also solid, Tagaloa said.

“Iverson Fuiava took a interception back for a touchdown on the second drive, which put the Jaguars up for good. The defensive line played well all night putting pressure on Artesia’s quarterback. Nathan Tagaloa and Fiti Tauiliili limited the running game at linebacker. Tauiliili came up with a big forced fumble and was able to recover it, setting up another Jaguar scoring drive.  The secondary play was solid all night holding Artesia to under 100 yards throwing. Kevin Higareda added another interception in the second half.”

Anthony Gomez had another great game.

“He was perfect on all PAT’s and kicked a 30 yard field, Tagaloa said.

“Overall I was pleased with our performance, but what I was most proud of was the role players stepping up and competing. Frankie Gonzalez led two scoring drives in the second half at quarterback. Jonathan Mota ran hard rushing for the only touchdown in the second half.  Kris Gomez came in and had three tackles in one drive. Maurice Dunning had a big sack chasing down Artesia’s quarterback.”
