JSerra went 5-0 in the tournament, finishing with victories over Dos Pueblos, Orange Lutheran and Newport Harbor Saturday.
JSerra was led by sophomore quarterback Kate Meier who was the MVP. She was responsible for 11 touchdowns (seven passing and four rushing) in three games on Saturday.
In the championship game, sophomore Sterling Flores stopped the Sailors’ first drive with an interception, which set up a 1-yard scoring run by Meier. Newport Harbor pulled to within a point with a touchdown later in the half, but Meier threw a 26-yard scoring strike down the middle of the field to Tessa Russell to give JSerra a 14-6 lead at halftime.
Meier then put Lions ahead 21-6 with a 6-yard touchdown and Kai Beary rounded out the scoring with a late safety.
In the semifinals, JSerra defeated Orange Lutheran 27-6. Meier accounted for four touchdowns in the first half with running touchdowns of 3 yards and 9 yards. She also tossed two scoring passes to Russell (17 yards and 18 yards).
