Santa Ana lineman Nick Larriva made his college decision this week.
Santa Ana High School lineman Nick Larriva has committed to play football at Division 1 Idaho State University where he will receive a full-ride football scholarship, Saints Coach Charlie TeGantvoort confirmed Friday.
The 6-4 defensive end/tight end made the announcement Wednesday on Twitter. Larriva is currently playing for the Saints boys basketball team.
Larriva was lineman of the year in the Orange Coast League and helped lead the Saints to the league title and into the semifinal round of the CIF Division 8 playoffs.
“Nick dominated up front on both sides of the ball and became one the best defensive lineman in Southern California,” said TeGantvoort.
“We are super proud of Nick Larriva. He is one of the first Division 1 football scholarships out of not just Santa Ana High School but the entire Santa Ana district in a very long time. And we will definitely have a couple more players signing Division 1 and other division football scholarships this year. We are being told that it will a record setting number.
“On Feb. 6, we will have a great signing day celebration for all these amazing student athletes.”
Larriva had 358 receiving yards and six touchdowns. Defensively, he had 136 tackles and 24 quarterback sacks.
Larriva was also named first team all-county by the Orange County Register.
