“We truthfully weren’t sure where we were going to land,” said Segerstrom Coach Joseph Tagaloa. “Some had us projected to be D7 as a 14, 15, 16 seed, while others had us D8. You never know what’s going to happen with CIF pairings.
“The thing about CIF, is everybody is after the same thing, no matter what seed you are. We’re excited that we got in and understand that every game moving forward is going to be challenging. Our approach will be the same as it’s been all year, compete every snap.”
If Segerstrom wins its opener, it will face the winner of the Irvine vs. Fillmore game in the second round. Segerstrom defeated Irvine 21-20 in a Foxtrot League game at Segerstrom.
Segerstrom ended the regular season Friday with a 42-28 victory over Beckman (1-9) at Segerstrom.
“It was great to get a win on senior night,” Tagaloa said. “We were able to get everybody in the game, which is always a plus. Offensively Noah Martinez, Elijah Ledesma, and Adrian Cervantes were the difference makers.
“Defensively we had solid performances turned in by Jullian Hernandez and Jesse Martinez who both had big interceptions. On special teams, Josh Martinez was perfect on all his PAT attempts.”
