—Orange, which rolled to the Foxtrot League championship scoring a bunch of points, was not seeded among the top four teams and plays at top-seeded Chaparal in the opening round of Division 2. The Panthers, with a win, could face Capo Valley in the second round.

—Defending CIF champion Santa Margarita defeated Centennial 42-7 in last year’s CIF Division 1 final.

—Corona del Mar and Newport Harbor both play both home games at Newport Harbor, so one of the games will have to be on another day other than Friday.

—University, coached by Vince Mesa, is in the CIF playoffs for the first time since 2015.

—Friday’s Divison 12 match-up between Costa Mesa and Rancho Alamitos will be Friday at 7 p.m. at Bolsa Grande, according to Rancho Alamitos AD Anh Than.

—Woodbridge, with three wins overall, petitioned for an at-large berth but did not receive one, according to Coach Connor McBride. The Warriors won the CIF Division 13 championship last year in McBride’s first year.

—CIF officials noted this is the “sixth year of competitive equity based individual school placement formulated by rankings from HSRatings.com website.”
