The next Tustin Classic, a boys basketball tournament hosted by Tustin High, is tentatively scheduled to be held from April 12 to April 16, 2021, according to Tillers coach Ringo Bossenmeyer.
The tournament moves from a 16-team format to an eight-team field for this season and comes after CIF officials moved the tentative start of the boys basketball season to March because of the coronavirus pandemic. The tournament is normally held in December.
“We are having an eight team field only due to the availability of facilities and the fact that many league schedules begin the next week,” Bossenmeyer said. “Having an eight team tournament allows us to still guarantee four games for each team and have the tournament completed on Friday, April 16.
“This gives teams Saturday and the beginning of the following week to prepare for league play. However, all of the above is pending Tustin Unified School District approval and where we are at that point in terms of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The teams in the tournament will be Corona del Mar, Los Alamitos, Ocean View, San Clemente, Tesoro, Trabuco Hills, Tustin and Western.
Mission Viejo won last year’s Tustin Classic, defeating Cajon 79-72 in double overtime.
