PHOTOS: Trabuco Hills defense forces five turnovers to lead Mustangs past El Toro 55-14

Trabuco Hills High’s defense forced five turnovers to help the Mustangs defeat El Toro 55-14 Friday night in a rivalry game at Trabuco Hills.

“So proud of the Mustang program for playing hard for four quarters at all three levels and completing the sweep of all three levels,” said Trabuco Hills Coach Mark Nolan.

Drew Barrett rushed for three touchdowns in the first half to lead the Mustangs.

It was First Responder’s night as Trabuco Hills honored United States military and public safety service members.

Trabuco’s defensive lineman Jordan Jamack made the first big play of the night forcing an El Toro fumble on El Toro’s second offensive play. Zach Porter recovered the fumble to set up the Mustangs with good field position.

Three plays later, Barrett ran it in from 30 yards out to make it 6-0.

After an El Toro punt, quarterback Jaxon Smaler connected with Jake Naso for a 41 yard pass completion down to the 1-yard line. Barrett thenwent over for his second score to make it 13-0.

After an El Toro three and out, quarterback Aiden Armstrong hits Jack Holland for a 5 yard passing TD to put the Mustangs ahead 20-0.

Trabuco Hills then stopped El Toro on fourth down, and two plays later Mason Fishel took a toss to the left and ran 51 yards for a TD to give the Mustangs a 27-0 lead.

Daniel Murray recovered a fumble on the ensuing El Toro possession. Four plays later Drew Barrett ran it in from 10 yards for his third score and the Mustangs led 34-0 at halftime.

El Toro received the 2nd half kickoff but the drive stalled. Trabuco stopped El Toro’s fake punt attempt with good field position. Mason Fishel took advantage with a 2 yard touchdown score.

Brenden Mallon recovered a fumble by El Toro. On the ensuing drive, Smaler hit Naso for a 16 yard TD pass to give the Mustangs a 48-0 lead.

El Toro got on the board in the fourth quarter with a 14 yard run by RB Danny Shtansky. 48-7. But on the ensuing kickoff, Trabuco receiver Mason McDonough returned the kickoff 88 yards for another Trabuco score making it 55-7.

El Toro added a late score, a 50 yard TD pass from quarterback Michael Chavez to Collin Payne to account for the final margin.

Trabuco Hills (3-1) plays at Capistrano Valley on Friday night. El Toro (1-3) hosts St. Margaret’s Friday at Trabuco Hills.
