Six of the seven Pacific Coast League varsity cross country teams competed in the league opening three-mile meets Saturday on the Beckman High campus.
Under the plan developed by cross country coaches and athletic directors, each team will host a meet which includes three teams each week. Laguna Hills had a bye this week but will host a meet next week.
Cross country is currently the only high school sport allowed to compete under guidelines from the California Department of Public Health.
No spectators were allowed to attend Saturday’s meet.
Competition begin at 7 a.m. with the girls meet between Beckman and University, according to Beckman Athletic Director Steve Fischel. All levels, including frosh-soph, junior varsity and varsity competed, he added.
“It went well today,” said Fischel.
It was the second meet for the Beckman teams, who opened last week with a nonleague meet against Foothill.
