PCL ALL-LEAGUE BASEBALL: Woodbridge’s Jack Bunnell MVP; a look at 1st and 2nd teams

Woodbridge High senior Jack Bunnell, who led the Warriors to the Pacific Coast League baseball title, has been named the league’s most valuable player..

Bunnell, who is headed for the University of Washington, was 6-0 with a 0.83 ERA. In 50 2/3 innings, he struck out 70,. At the plate, Bunnell also stepped up batting .449 with 20 runs scored, 10 RBI, five doubles and a triple.

Woodbridge pitcher Lucky Ramanathan was named the league’s pitcher of the year.

Ramanathan, a senior, was the Warriors ace out of the bullpen and was also instrumental in Woodbridge winning the PCL title. He had an 8-3 record with a 0.83 ERA and one save. He had 49 strikeouts in 42 innings of work and allowed just five earned runs. Ramanathan will pitch at Ottawa University in Arizona next year.

The offensive player of the year was Beckman outfielder Nick McLain, a senior. In November, McLain signed a national letter of intent to play for UCLA. McLain led the Patriots to a 17-7 record, batting .395 with 11 doubles, four triples, three home runs, 18 RBI, 30 hits and 24 runs scored. He also had an on-base percentage of .495 and a slugging percentage of .763 and also walked 13 times and had 11 stolen bases.
