Officials announce the player of the game awards will be named in honor of the late Mark Heller.
Pacifica Christian High School will host the 3rd Annual BSN Sports Showcase Saturday, Jan. 7 with five boys basketball games, including a game between Pacifica Christian and Orange Lutheran at 6:30 p.m.
“We have five exciting games starting at 2 p.m. and playing throughout the afternoon/evening. We have multiple Top 25 teams attending from their respective divisions/states, as well as a line-up of 15 plus NCAA Division 1 bound student-athletes,” said Brandon Gonzalez, Pacifica Christian Athletic Director.
“We are also excited to announce this year we will be honoring the late Mark Heller, who was our inaugural play by play announcer for the broadcast, and helped get this showcase off the ground. Each game will have a player of the game who will be awarded the Mark Heller Player of the Game award.”
Heller was a long-time and highly respected announcer who died in March 2020 after a battle with leukemia at the age of 57.
In January 2020 Heller called the play-by-by for four boys basketball games at the BSN Showcase at Pacifica Christian. Heller teamed up with former Cal State Fullerton basketball star Chris Dade, who did the commentary for the telecasts, which were livestreamed for basketball fans. The last game he broadcast had a thrilling finish. Pacifica Christian defeated Arbor View of Las Vegas 69-68.
