Orange County high school teams are preparing for the start of the CIF girls volleyball playoffs this week.
It is the first year of end of season, competitive equity-based playoff groupings, CIF officials noted.
There are 296 teams that have qualified into the 10 divisional playoff brackets. The single
elimination tournaments begin with first-round matches on Wednesday, Oct. 23 in
divisions one through three.
Divisions four through 10 begin Thursday, Oct. 24.
Pacific Coast League champion Rosary is the only top seeded team from Orange County and will compete in Division 3. South Coast League at-large entry Dana Hills is seeded second in Division 3.
Other OC teams that earned high seeds are Trinity League champion Mater Dei (No. 2) and Surf League co-champion Huntington Beach (No. 3) in Division 1 and Orange Coast League champion Godinez, which is seeded third in Division 7.
Division 1 uses a pool play format.
Most matches are scheduled for 6 p.m. but could be changed.
In Division 1, No. 7 Los Alamitos plays at No. 2 Mater Dei and No. 6 Redondo Union plays at No. 3 Huntington Beach on Wednesday.
In Division 3, Rosary Academy hosts Royal and Dana Hills hosts Canyon on Wednesday.
In Division 7, Godinez hosts Nordhoff on Thursday at 5 p.m.
The finals are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 9 at Cerritos College and other host sites.
