OC boys volleyball teams earn high seeds in CIF playoffs beginning on Monday

Pairings for the CIF boys volleyball playoffs were announced Saturday and Orange County high school squads are among the top-seeded teams in the divisions.

Wild card matches will begin on Monday and opening round contests for divisions except Division 1 are Thursday at 7 p.m. There is an extra wild card round in Division 5.

There are a number of wild card matches in Division 5 Monday. Santa Ana will play at Santa Ana Valley at 6 p.m. with the winner moving on to another wild card Tuesday vs. Ambassador Christian.

Orangewood Academy will also play in a wild card Monday at Cantwell Sacred Heart with the winner moving on to a wild card match Tuesday vs. St Pius/Matthias.

Also, Westminster will play at Costa Mesa Monday with the winner moving on to face Liberty Christian Tuesday in another wild card.

Godinez will also host a Division 5 wild card match on Tuesday against the winner of the wild card match Monday between St. Bonaventure and Artesia. Also in Division 5, Fullerton will play at Rancho Alamitos in a wild card match Tuesday.

Division 1 will feature a pool-play format with the winners of the two pools meeting in the championship on Saturday, May 13 at Cerritos College.

Loyala is No. 1, Newport Harbor second, Mira Costa third, Corona del Mar fourth, Beckman fifth, Huntington Beach sixth and Mater Dei seventh in Division 1.

Opening round matches are Wednesday, April 26. Beckman is at Loyola, Edison at CdM, Huntington Beach at Newport Harbor and Mater Dei at Mira Costa.

In Division 2, WIlson is top seeded, Servite second, Tesoro third and Santa Barbara fourth. St. Margaret’s is top-seeded and Mission Viejo second in Division 3. Troy is fourth in Division 4.

The finals for divisions other than Division 1 will be at Long Beach City College or host sites on Saturday, May 13.
