Northwood High School’s boys tennis team is one of four Pacific Coast League teams opening the CIF playoffs this week.
Northwood, the No. 4 team from the PCL, is scheduled to open the CIF Division 1 playoffs Wednesday against Sage Hill, the San Joquin League champion, at 3 p.m. at Sage Hill.
“Northwood tennis takes pride in participating amongst one of the most competitive leagues in the CIF Southern Section,” said first-year Northwood Coach Kayla Almazan.
A number of players have stood out for the Timberwolves.
“Seniors Jason Yang, Spencer Ho and Sumay Kalra all played an outstanding season,” the coach said. “Jason Yang held a record of 17-7 in singles, 8-4 in doubles. Spencer and Sumay had an overall record of 32-7 as our starting doubles pair, placing them as a top four team in PCL. Spencer and Sumay were also invited to participate in the prestigious Ojai Tournament, an event that Northwood is always grateful to represent in.
“Freshman Ethan Jacob snagged an impressive 21 wins during the season. As a rising star to our program, Ethan sets a prime example of discipline, work-ethic and passion for the sport.”
“I really cannot have asked for a better team to kickstart my years here as a Northwood T’Wolf. As we head into the first rounds of CIF this week, our team is ecstatic to close out such a great season of tennis.”
