Beckman 77, Yorba Linda 54: The Patriots (11-4) won their opener at the Century Elks Tournament.

“The boys came out and played well, which is always scary when you’re coming off a few days off for the holiday,” said Beckman Coach John Goins.

“We brought good intensity defensively and I thought had one of our better offensive pace games of the season. We had a nice balanced attack on offense against Yorba Linda’s zone, with Shubh Khandhadia getting us 4 3’s to add with our inside attack of (Aaman) Soma, (Christopher) Muller and (Ethan) Bozzo.

“Dylan Thoerner chipped in 16 points in a lot less minutes than he is used to playing. We are just trying to take things game by game and doing our best to try to dictate the tempo and tone of the game, which I felt we succeeded at tonight.”

Yorba Linda (9-7) was led by Cory Knutson, who scored 15 points. Luke Ishikawa and Connor Platt had seven points each for the Mustangs.
