No. 3 seeded Mater Dei opened the CIF State Girls Open Division Regional playoffs with a 76-40 victory over No. 6 Bishop Montgomery Wednesday night at Mater Dei.
The Monarchs (29-3) move on to the semifinals Saturday against No. 2 Etiwanda (25-5) Saturday at 7 p.m. on the road. Etiwanda had a first round bye.
The winner of Saturday’s game advances to play the winner of the other semifinal between top-seeded Ontario Christian and No. 4-seeded Sierra Canyon on Tuesday in the regional final. The state final is Saturday, March 15 in Sacramento.
Addie Deal scored 27 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had six assists to lead the Monarchs Wednesday night.
Devyn Kiernan had nine points and five assists, Stella Hoss nine points and four rebounds and Amaya Williams eight points, five rebounds and three assists for Mater Dei.
