WOODBRIDGE 10, UNIVERSITY 4: The Warriors (16-3) remained atop the Pacific Coast League standings with the victory at Uni. Dylan Blakey (3-0) got the victory, allowing six hits in five innings and one earned run. He struck out five. Brandon Abernathy had three hits and three stolen bases, Blakey had two hits including a grand slam home run and four RBI. Luke De Vries had a home run and two RBI, Nathan Perry had a double, RBI and a stolen base and Jaden Hoang-Tien had two RBI.
LAGUNA HILLS 3, IRVINE 1: The Hawks remained in second place in the Pacific Coast League behind the outstanding pitching of Scotty Kato, who had a complete game and struck out 10.
Billy Schellenberg was 2 for 3 with a run scored and Travis Williams was 1 for 3 with an RBI for the Hawks (15-4).
“Kato was lights out for us on the mound,” said Laguna Hills Coach Drew Hillman. “We were able to get some timely hits late in the game which proved to be the difference.
Irvine (11-10) was led by JC Allen, who was 2 for 3; Tate Zimmerman, who was 1 for 2 and Jordan Raymond, who was 1 for 2 with a run scored.
Sawyer Spivey pitched well for Irvine, allowing three earned runs and striking out four in seven innings.
“Today was a great pitcher’s duel,” said Irvine Coach Gabriel Cota. “You have to tip your cap to their guy. He got out of every jam he was in. We struggled to cash in on our opportunities and against a good team that will hurt you.”
