Woodbridge High School’s softball team continued its torrid hitting Tuesday and moved even closer to clinching the Pacific Coast League title with a 15-0 victory over Laguna Hills on senior night at Deanna Manning Stadium.
Woodbridge (10-5-1 overall) is 8-0 in league play with four games remaining. The Warriors were coming off a 13-2 victory over Beckman on Monday at Lower Peters Canyon Park.
Both games were called due to the run-rule after five innings.
“It was a solid victory, the girls played really well, offense was on point, the defense was there and baserunning was solid,” said Woodbridge Coach Kim Wojciechowski.
Sophomore Mia Tamkoc, who got the win Monday, pitched another five innings in the win Tuesday, striking out 12, holding Laguna Hills to two singles.
Woodbridge scored a run in the first inning, two more in the second and 12 runs in the fourth inning on 10 hits and four Hawks errors.
Every Warrior batter had a hit in the game. Leadoff hitter Anna Kim, the Warrior shortstop, was 3 for 4 with two runs scored and three RBI, including a two-run triple in the second inning.
Alexis Martinez was 2 for 4 with two RBI; Clarissa Stayrook was 2 for 4 with a run scored and three RBI, all coming on a bases loaded triple in the fourth; Tamkoc had an RBI single and a run scored; Abby Cronn was 2 for 3 with three RBI; Kate Underwood was 1 for 3 with two runs scored an an RBI and Senna Yamamoto was 1 for 3 with two runs scored an two RBI.
Payton Harris and Ariel Cardenas each singled and scored a run for the Warriors.
“Mia’s pitching continues to lead our offense, which has been solid behind her,” said Wojciechowski. “Our offense, led by our leadoff hitter Anna Kim, continues to get hotter with every game. We have hit our stride and we’ll take in one game at a time like we always do. We have a special group of kids this season and they make us proud daily.”
Karol Hernandez and Marie Rockhold had the two hits for Laguna Hills (7-8, 2-6).
