Northwood High officials confirmed Friday that Justin Utupo has been named the new head varsity football coach.
Utupo replaces Mike Stewart, who resigned after the abbreviated spring season. Northwood played just two spring games due to injuries finishing 1-1. Stewart, who was the team’s interim coach, replaced Paige Nobles, who was not brought back after one season. Nobles later joined the Dana Hills staff.
“Northwood is excited to have Coach Utupo as the new head varsity football coach,” co-athletic director Brandon Emery said. “Justin’s playing experience at Notre Dame along with his coaching experience at Millikan High School, Azusa Pacific University, and most recently at Orange Lutheran will allow him to bring his knowledge of the game and a unique perspective to our program.
“While going through an extensive hiring process, it was immediately evident that Coach Utupo was special and we were excited at the idea of getting to work with him and having him lead our student-athletes in their pursuit of victory with honor. We look forward to seeing what Coach Utupo does with our program.”
OC Sports Zone is planning an interview with the Timberwolves’ new coach soon.
