Irvine High shortstop Grant Lockwood has committed to play college baseball at Cal Poly Pomona, Irvine baseball coach Gabriel Cota confirmed Tuesday night.

“Grant has worked extremely hard to get to where he is now as a baseball player and person,” Cota said. “Our program has the basic philosophy that we are striving to make the best people possible and use baseball as a means to accomplish that goal.
“Grant is the epitome of that sentiment and has thrived in all aspects including the classroom, social life and, of course, baseball. He deserves all the accolades coming his way and will bring a strong work ethic to the next level.”
Last year, Lockwood batted .318 with 28 hits, 16 runs and five RBI. He will soon be preparing for his senior season with the Vaqueros.
