Irvine High’s scholar athletes were honored Monday night at the Pacific Coast League Senior Student Athlete Awards Ceremony at Portola.
The program was sponsored by the Exchange Club of Irvine, the Tustin Unified School District and the Irvine Unified School District.
Irvine’s female scholar athletes were:
-Kaitlyn Lee, who earned six varsity letters in volleyball and soccer during her career. She will be studying kinesiolgoy at Cal Baptist in the fall.
-Rebecca Rea, who participated in cross country, soccer and track and field and had a total of eight varsity letters. She will study pre-nursing at Long Beach State in the fall.
-Camille Ross, who was a four-year varsity letterwinner in swimming, a four-year CIF finalist, a two-year state qualifier. She will attend Tufts University to continue her academic and swimming career in the fall.
-Ellaena Rodriguez, who earned six varsity letters in softball and volleyball. She was a four-year starter on the softball team. She will major in chemical engineering with a minor in business at Colorado School of Mines.
Irvine’s male scholar athletes of the year were:
-Marc “Bubba” Filia, who earned seven varsity letters at Irvine High, three in football and four in baseball. He helped lead the Vaqueros to the CIF playoffs in his senior year. He was named to the OC all-star baseball squad. Filia, named the PCL male athlete of the year, will play baseball at UC San Diego next season.
-Grant Lockwood, who was a four-year varsity starter for the Irvine High baseball team. He helped lead the Vaqueros to the CIF playoffs this past season. Lockwood was selected to play in the Orange County all-star baseball game this week at Glover Park and is headed to Cal Poly Pomona to play baseball.
-Kaimana McCreadie, who wrestled on the varsity team all four years of his career. He was a three time Pacific Coast League champion. He is in Irvine’s top ten club for best win/loss percentage in a varsity career. He will be continuing his wrestling career and attend Morningside College in Iowa in the fall.
-Ethan Shank, who was a member of Irvine’s football and track and field squads for four years. He also played on the basketball team for two years. He earned six varsity letters from football and track. He will be studying biology while continuing his football career at Pomona-Pitzer in the fall.
Ross and Filia were named Irvine High’s scholar athletes of the year and Kyle Trout and Florence Lee received Irvine’s PCL Sportsmanship awards.
