Irvine High’s football team, coached by Tom Ricci, went 5-0 Saturday at a mini-passing tournament hosted by Villa Park.
Irvine had victories over Buena Park, Chaminade, Murrieta Mesa, Bolsa Grande and Redondo, Ricci said. Jack Condon and Tate Zimmerman were Irvine’s two quarterbacks.
“We are continuing to tighten things down as our skill players get up to speed,” Ricci said. “I’m reallly proud of Jack and Tate and what they’re able to do at quarterback. Our defense did a great job holding most teams to only one or two first downs.
“Lance Navone had two interceptions with Nathan Sasaki grabbing one. Our freshman Deacon Moss had an interception and a touchdown.”
Irvine opens the season on Friday, Aug. 27 vs. Canyon. To read more about the Vaqueros please click here.
