Cypress High’s baseball program has two CIF titles under its belt and a string of six consecutive league titles.
Can the Centurions, 19-3 this season and ranked No. 1 in the CIF Divison 1, bring home another?
Cypress (19-3) kept rolling Saturday sweeping a doubleheader Saturday against El Toro by scores of 9-6 and 8-2. (Please click here for a report)
“This group has the potential to make a good run in the playoffs for sure,” Coach John Weber said after Saturday’s first game.”But we’ve got to play as a unit and we’ve got to play better defense.
“We do a pretty good job of situational hitting and do a pretty decent job of moving runners when we need to. Our pitching needs to be a little more consistent, our defense needs to be a lot more consistent in order for us to hang up a 2019 banner up there, that’s for sure.”
Weber has undoubtedly been asked if the Centurions can hang another banner on the outfield fence.
“I think the pieces of the puzzle are here,” he said. “But we got to clean some in-house things with the way we do some things, communicating with each other.”
Cypress won the CIF Division 2 crown in 2005 and the Division 2 title in 2013.
Cypress, which leads the Empire League, resumes league play Wednesday at Valencia and then hosts the Tigers on Friday.
