It was a week to remember for Cypress High pitcher Cameron Repetti, who threw a no-hitter last week in the Centurions 1-0 Empire League victory over Tustin.

The senior had 11 strikeouts and came within an out of throwing a perfect game on Tuesday, April 9.

“It was pretty awesome, everything was working,” Repetti said on Saturday. “It was a pretty surreal experience to be able to throw a no-hitter.”

Repetti said he started to realize a no-hitter was a possibility in the fifth inning.

“I was actually pretty nervous by the seventh inning; I just competed and made the right pitches and got lucky enough to finish it off,” he said.

Appearing to follow the tradition of not wanting to jinx the no-hitter, the Cypress players said little as the no-hitter progressed through the late innings.

“I don’t think anybody really knew until the last couple of outs,” Repetti said. “They (his teammates) said something in the last inning.”

However, when the game ended and Repetti finished off the no-hitter, there wasn’t a lot of celebration, Repetti said.

“It was 1-0. It was a pretty high intensity game,” Repetti said. “I was hoping to get mobbed, but everybody just walked off the field.”

Repetti, one of the aces of a talented staff, said he goes into each game with the same attitude.

“I always go into a start thinking that no one is going to hit me if I can just make my pitches,” said Repetti, who plays on the infield when he doesn’t pitch.”It’s the mindset I have to have.”

Cypress Coach John Weber, who has seen his team post a 19-3 record and a 4-0 mark atop the Empire League, has been impressed with Repetti’s efforts this season, which has helped the Centurions to a No. 2 CIF Division 1 ranking.

“He did a really good job,” Weber said of his no-hitter. “He’s been a staple for us. He’s a really, really good player. He’s done a really good job on the mound for us this year. He has struggled in his years in the past being consistent but he’s done a good job this year of being for the most part consistent so that’s awesome.”

Repetti looks to have a promising future too at Cal State Fullerton. He said there were many factors leading in his decision to play for the Titans.

“The history there, close to home and it’s a baseball school,” he said. “I love the coaches, I love everything about that place.”

But in the next month or so, the focus will be trying to help Cypress win its third CIF title.

Repetti said he wants the season to “end in a dogpile.”

“We’re doing pretty well, it’s exciting,” he said. “We’ve set ourselves up. We control our own destiny for league. We want a CIF title, that’s it, that’s the goal.”
