Beckman High School’s boys volleyball team captured the championship at the Foothill Tournament Saturday and now gets ready to defend the Pacific Coast League title.

The Patriots, coached by Darin McBain, are going for their fourth straight league crown.

“It’s a tournament that we have been in the semis and finals of before, but have never won, so this gets us off and running the way we had hoped,” McBain said of the Foothill tourney. “Ryan Graves, our junior setter and team captain, was the MVP of the tournament. His leadership and calm demeanor are really what makes this team go.

“Noah Huang, our junior middle blocker, was all-tournament as well.  He can be unstoppable at times offensively. We also got solid production from junior outside hitter Jack Graves, senior outside hitter Eli Lee, junior libero Noah Lee and seniors Jared Irwin and Kamran Vakilian.”

Beckman is off to a 7-0 start and also defeated San Clemente in three sets. Beckman meets Woodbridge on Tuesday and University Thursday in league play and also has a non-league match with Corona del Mar Wednesday.

“I know my guys have that one circled on their schedules.” McBain said. “To top it all off, we play in the Best of the West tournament in Poway this weekend. That tournament features many of the top teams in the country, so we are excited to see how we match up. Expectations are high for this group this season. We have our sights set on a fourth consecutive league championship and hope to be considered as one of the top 10 teams in CIF when the regular season concludes.”
