Foothill, Cypress, Portola, Costa Mesa, Servite and Brea Olinda capture victories

FOOTHILL 68, YORBA LINDA 44: The Knights improved their record to 8-2 on the season. Jacob Horton scored 12 points and had four assists and Braedyn Benhard scored eight points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Foothill. Luke Ishikawa scored 18 points to lead Yorba Linda (2-3).

CYPRESS 50, SONORA 37: The Centurions (1-2) got a road victory Thursday night. Christian Chai scored 19 points, Kai Nagano scored 11 points and made two 3-pointers and Kody Papke scored eight points to lead Derek Mitchell’s Cypress squad.

“The Centurions played a solid game defensively led by KV Singh and Ethan Salao as they held all-county player, Daniel Esparza to 11 points,” Mitchell said.

Chai controlled the tempo of the game, Mitchell said.

“It felt good to get our first victory of the season,” the coach said. “We have been up double digits in each of games so far in the first half, but we weren’t able to sustain our efforts. Today, we played a complete game and got the win.
We have two big games vs Mater Dei and La Mirada before we try to defend our league title.”

PORTOLA 52, TUSTIN 34: The Bulldogs were led by Eugene Jung, who scored 12 points and Josh Steinberg and Colin Huang who had 10 points each.

COSTA MESA 66, WHITNEY OF CERRITOS 34: The Mustangs (3-6) were led by Gio Quero, who hd 19 points, six assists and Aiden Spallone, who had 17 points and 11 rebounds. Guard Christian Dasca had seven points and seven rebounds for the Mustangs.

SERVITE 49, FULLERTON 37: The Friars (9-2) were led by Andrew Cook who scored 15 points. Al-Amin Juma and Tyler Small scored eight points each for Servite.

BREA OLINDA 53, EL DORADO 43: Brea Olinda captured the victory in its home opener.
