Irvine High’s football program honored former Vaquero coaching legend Terry Henigan and some of the players who were on Irvine’s CIF championship teams in 1991, 1992 and 1993 before Friday’s game with Woodbridge.

“One of the former players got it together and I thought that was a nice celebration for those guys who were able to make it,” current coach Erik Terry said. “And it’s always nice for those guys in particular to come back and see Terry.

“He’s such an important part of a lot of men’s lives. He’s changed a lot of men’s lives. We all owe him a debt of gratitude for what he taught us and how to it the right way.”

The drum unit of Irvine’s marching band led the way on to the field at Irvine Stadium for Henigan, who is now retired.

“We thought that would be a nice treat to come out with the drums and through the tunnel as a memory,” Terry said.
